Be Like Jesus

"It is enough." What is enough? I love when something is enough. That means I don't have to keep trying so hard, or I don't have to keep filling it up. It means that no more is needed. So what does Jesus say is enough? Matthew 10:25 says "It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master." As followers of Christ, it should be enough for you and for me to be like Jesus. We shouldn't want or need anything else. Nothing else is needed--Jesus is sufficient.

Why should Jesus be sufficient for you and for me? How is it that He can be enough? Well, in the same chapter--Matthew 10:30-31--the Bible tells us that Jesus cares so much about us that He even counts the hairs on our heads. He assigns great value to us. "But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. "Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows."

So what happens when Jesus is enough? The sufficiency of Jesus leads us to radical faithfulness and commitment to Christ. It also leads us to receive Jesus' radical commitment and faithfulness. Matthew 10:32 "Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven."

When Jesus is enough, we also find true life in Him. It causes us to make Christ our priority above all else whether family, comfort, or personal gain. The life that Jesus offers can only be found in rejecting the life offered by the world. Matthew 10:39 "He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it."

One wonderful promise that Christ gives when we view Him as being enough is that none of our actions become insignificant or meaningless. The most trivial matters become the most important to God. Nothing in our lives is wasted when living for Christ. When Jesus is all we need, everything done for Him impacts eternity. Matthew 10:42 "And whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward."
