Proverbs: God's People are Hard Workers

Proverbs 6:6-11, 24:30-34

1. We work because it is natural, normal, and healthy. "Go to the ant, you sluggard, and be wise." "I went by the field of the slothful man."

2. We work because we have God as our Ruler. "Having no captain, overseer, or ruler, the ant provides her supplies in the summer, and she gathers her food in the harvest."

   1. God established sowing and reaping here. Galatians 6:4-9

   2. God will not be mocked at the final judgment. Proverbs 27:18, Hebrews 6:10, Revelation 2:3

   3. God is the working God, so we want to represent Him. 1 Corinthians 10:31, John 17:4

3. We work because it is vital for the Church. "Christ is the head of the Church, and He is the Savior of the body." Ephesians 5:23, John 6:27-29--Labor not just for temporary food, but work the works of God. 1 Corinthians 15:58--be steady in the work of the Lord.

Consider and Compare with the Ant Proverbs 6:6-11

1. She provides her supplies in the summer=she prepares for her food.

2. She gathers her food in the harvest time=plans, saves for every season of life.

3. She works without a ruler=works without being watched, told or rewarded. Take initiative at work!

Negative Consequences of Lazy People

1. 12:24--forced labor and imposed accountability

2. 15:19--the pathway is full of thorns

3. 15:27--bring trouble on your family

4. 22:13--live by paranoias and excuses. Discuss excuses people make and fears that keep us from being diligent workers.

5. 23:4-5--your money flies like an eagle.

6. 24:33--poverty is forced on you as something you get trapped in.
