Just like Paul called on Timothy and his church to pray, God calls us to pray; who to pray for, what to pray for, and who to pray to. A good life is dependent on trusting the King, not kings. 1 Timothy 2:1-6

  1. Pray for Earthly Kings, all in Authority, and all People (vs. 1-2)

    1. Prayer is the most important priority; "first of all." What efforts do we often put ahead of prayer-to enjoy a better life, government, or country?

    2. Prayer involves variety.

      1. Supplications-petitions, requests for supply and needs

      2. Prayers-reverent asking from God with bowing and humility

      3. Intercessions-intercede for others while drawing close beside

      4. Give thanks on behalf of all lives

    3. Prayer is universal.

      1. Who do we pray for the most? Who do we rarely or never pray for? Why can we give thanks for every life? Why can we give thanks for our enemies? Since we do not know everyone on earth, who around the world do you know that you can pray for?

      2. In what ways do you trust government instead of Jesus? Name some government leaders, and what needs they may have. Take time to pray for our leaders.

  2. Pray to the King of Kings, Trusting only Him (vs. 3-5)

    1. Prayer for all is intrinsically good and pleasing to God.

    2. Out Savior is the only one to trust for deliverance from all "Nero" rulers.

    3. Jesus is the only one to be trusted as your intermediary between you and God. He is not a mediator who worked a compromise between opposing parties-you and God. He gives you access to God by taking your punishment for sin. all is on God's terms.

    4. Only Jesus paid the slave-price to ransom you from Satan's slave market.

      1. What government promises and programs promise freedom and prosperity, yet end up causing more bondage and poverty?

  3. Prayer for These Things, Expecting Blessings and Answers (vs. 2-4)

    1. "So that" indicates why you pray for all people, kings, and leaders. Therefore, we should also pray for the blessed results of saved and good leaders.

    2. Pray for peaceful lives, which emphasizes peace within each heart without worry.

    3. Pray for quiet lives, which is seen in a culture and country without violence and riots.

    4. Pray for power to live godly lives; living based on reality of, and relationship with God.

    5. Pray for holy lives, living by moral dignity and honorable actions before God and man.

    6. Pray for the salvation of all people, kings and leaders.
