Jesus Made "Good Wine"

For my first blog, may I call your attention to the first miracle of Jesus. Read John 2:1-11 and you will see in "good" English texts that He turned water into "good wine."

Before we look at the definition of good wine, may I encourage you from the conversation between Mary and Jesus. Mary was "concerned" about a problem at a wedding. Servant-hearted "problem-solvers" get involved and ask the Lord for help. Jesus tenderly asked, "Dear Woman, what does your concern have to do with me" (paraphrase)? He addressed her that same way when on the cross He said, "Woman, behold your son" (John). Jesus wanted John to help take care of His dear mother.

Concerns at weddings are real, and Jesus still cares. We face even greater concerns as individuals, churches, and communities. Let us unite in turning to Christ in prayer for needy people in Florida, Puerto Rico, and Texas.

Jesus then proceeded to benefit the wedding guests with His blessing to the bride and groom. He miraculously made non-alcoholic wine. Consider the following truths.

1. The word "wine" (in the Bible) is used for fermented and unfermented wine, grape clusters, and medicine.

2. Jesus is the Word, and the Word says, "Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbor, joining him to your bottle, even (including the kind) to make drunk. (Habakkuk 2:15)

3. No "woes" will every apply to sinless Jesus!

4. Results of the miracle (v.11) include, "He manifested His glory," and "His disciples believed on Him." If there was alcoholic wine that ran out after close to a week of a typical Jewish wedding celebration, God's glory and a gospel witness would have been damaged if Jesus had given His neighbors about 150 gallons more!
